Meeting the standard

I love my life. I love that I get to be home with Peighton during the day and soak up all of her aweomeness. Seriously, I don't know if I could think of anything better. Well, warm chocolate chip cookie served with a glass of ice cold milk is a close second. But seriously, I am so thankful that I am able to be a stay at home mom/housewife/working mom all at the same time.

Being a stay at home mom, is not velour track suits, wine served at noon and housekeeper coming at 2pm to clean up each day's mess. I usually "schedule" our week so that 3 days we leave the house (errands, play dates ect) and 2 days we stay home. During at least one of those "at home" days, I make my list of the things to do.
  1. 7 loads of laundry
  2. 3 days worth of dishes (no dishwasher in this house)
  3. Put away my piles of junk randomly around the house
  4. Cook dinner
  5. Bathe P
  6. Vacume rug
  7. Sweep & mop the floors
  8. Empty trash

I am sad and ashamed to report, that on most days, I am lucky if I get one of these accomplished. Andy comes home and my hair isn't brushed, P's waffle is crumbled all in the carpet, dishes from the day (or two) are piled up, and the clothes are still sitting in the laundry. I am ashamed. I feel like I am failing at the whole "I stay home and therefor should have a beautiful, kept up house."

I have had enough. I am going to get off my computer and start with small goals. This week, my goal is going to have me make our bed each morning when I get up (since I am the last one to leave it). Growing up I had to make my bed every morning, but college and living with a man has taken that away. So laugh and judge away, my goal for the week is to make my bed everyday. Maybe next week I will shoot for the stars and try and wash my hair every day? Nah, I take it back.

What do you do to help keep your house up and your life organized?

  1. When we moved, my one request was a dishwasher, for exactly this reason haha! It's a task isn't it (the whole taking care of house, baby, sanity)? I'm still working on it so I have no tips... I am addicted to lists. The bed is a great starting motivator, it just sets the day - I too had to make my bed growing up and then college and living with a man got to me too haha. Have fun!

  2. I am everything you just wrote!! Everything. I can't remember the last time I made our bed. It's so hard to have that 'dream' home, I struggle every single day to do my chore list, and I am lucky if I get a couple of the things done. So I'm with you, you're not alone. It's been bothering me alot lately, I just can't get on top of it all :(
